Consequence ft. GLC & Really Doe - Disperse (video)

SAMMY BANANAS - August 9th

We got the Fool's Gold dancefloor 'stache Sammy Bananas coming through next weekend. Guy is a straight party rocker. Peep either his older Certified Bananas (which is him + Certified Max) material (I suggest the amazing "Sprang" compilation) or the below linked summer jams mix for an idea of what he's all about.

Lupe + CRS

The "Superstar like Lupe" mention in the previously posted video = time for some of his material. Here's a rare unreleased Wasalu mixtape track.

Lupe Fiasco - The Commercial (zShare)

Pity that Child Rebel Soldier (band consisting of Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams) never really took off. Their first single "US Placers" (which samples Radiohead main man Thom Yorke's vocals from "The Eraser") had me excited about future CRS joints.

Child Rebel Soldier - US Placers (zShare)

Yeaaaah they're busy boys with mad huge solo projects - just woulda been nice to hear some more bangers with those combined flows. The Glow in the Dark Tour had all 3 members sharing the stage, and Lupe recently hinted at a late 2008 release of a CRS album... so maybe it'll still go down (fingers crossed).

Kardinal Offishall ft. Clipse - Set It Off (video)

Ahhhh, previous post got me into Kardi mode.

Also - I wonder how much Crooks pitched to dress the boys from fitted to waist...

Enough I'm sure. But (thankfully) not enough for us to have to watch Malice rapping in the C&C x Billabong shorts (wtf? why?).

Ante Up!

Just found a link to this video in my inbox, courtesy of Haliwood homie DJ Double A.

And ofcourse, Paul had already beaten me to the punch.

Diplo, last night

Cait took this pic

Turned the club into a 500 person sauna. Hugging and/or dancing with the drenched friend beside you ain't no thang when you're equally raunchy wet. Fidget, baile, southern snap... it was all there. He even fed the peoples little intro teaser snippets of his Daft Punk flavoured "Work Is Never Over", until finally dropping this newer beefier version of the track, "Fired From Work".

Binary Star

I bumped into the "Masters of the Universe" album by the no longer existent Binary Star on Günké's ipod the other night. What a nice surprise. This is probably my fave off that 8 year old release:

Binary Star - Honest Expression (zShare)

Crazy to think that during both his duo & solo careers, One.Be.Lo (1/2 of Binary Star) still found time to train and ruin cats in the b-boy circuit. Not small time stuff either - he's a member of the famous Massive Monkees (that beat out 32 international crews to take the World B-Boy Championships back in 2004). Guy likes being on stage.

I don't post enough hip hop on here

But I'll explain why...

My old computer is filled to the tits with hundreds (upon hundreds) of full rap albums. So filled, in fact, that I don't even have enough memory to connect to the internet and upload a single track to a file sharing site. Even worse, my "critically low virtual memory" warning says I don't even have enough room to update my iTunes (old version doesn't recognize my new device, so I can't sync any songs either). I've cleansed the shitputer of everything but mp3s and music software, but still not enough. My current laptop is all 'bout the 124+ bpm dancefloor stuff, so until I start transferring all those old files with an external drive, this blog will remain quite dance fist pumping-ish.

I promise to start sprinkling with the genre. Like, asap.

Festival weekend

I'm supposed to be in Michigan right now. At some music festival, with a handfull of friends. I lost my passport though. And all my IDs are expired. AND both my birth certificate & citizenship card are Serbian. So much for cross-border fun. The friend that organized the trip (he's been going for 4 years straight) told me it was "funk, soul, and some hippy shit"... but all google results tell me its a weekend of pure folk music. Nowww, I can't get down to folk (he obviously knows this) - but the crew going is top notch, so the laughs/pics/memories would have been legit.

This same weekend, half-way across the globe (and back home), is a musical festival I'd be raving out to with childhood friends had I gone back to visit the fam this summer. The next few days at Exit Fest (in Novi Sad) are sprinkled with talents such as Soulwax, Booka Shade, Alex Metric, Claude Von Stroke, & Montreal's Tiga. That's on top of N*E*R*D, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Hype, Shy FX, Sex Pistols, and a few hundred others. Shiiiiiiiit.

Instead, I'll be doing our local Bluesfest thing. The festival is actually getting bigger every year - Snoop & The Wailers a few days ago, plus Akon, Wyclef, Sean Paul, & Donna Summer this weekend.
